Is Your Local Business Ranking Well in Google Places?

Going by just the sheer number of searches done on it every day, Google is the world’s largest search engine and is virtually synonymous with any web search. When you consider that internet access is growing by the day as the type of devices used to access the Internet moves from the traditional desktop computer to the much handier and widely used mobile phone, the influence of the internet and Google can only go up.

This is why I am convinced that any business today that ignores Google’s search engine does so to its own detriment. Furthermore, to make their search more effective for location based searches, Google provides a niche search tool known as Google Places which used to be known as Google Local or Google Maps that allows you to search for local businesses in any given location.

Because of its practical purpose, Google Places has seen rapid growth in its use. For instance, even though we have long known that shopping online opens the door for you to purchase from anywhere in the world, in the case of goods that you want to physically see before you purchase or a service industry such as a handyman or a professional such as a lawyer or a doctor, most of us prefer to identify and buy from a local business. In fact, recent projections indicate that it is only a matter of time before Google Places overtakes the standard business directory in being the preferred means to search for businesses.

What this means for a local business is that to ensure future growth you need to make sure that your business is listed in Google Places and ranks well. By ranking well your business has to be towards the top of the listings because regardless of what business you are in, chances are there are many other local business organizations in direct competition with it. Having your page rank higher gives you a better chance of being noticed and therefore getting new business. Most people only consider the first four to five search results so this is where you always want your business to be.

Ranking high in Google Places does not require working hard as much as it does being smart. So here are a couple of simple guidelines to get the most from using Google Places.

* Sign up for a Google account – Once you sign up and log in, you will see a button, ‘add new listing’. Click on this button and the system will guide you through registering your business.

* Ensure that you indicate the correct details for your address and contact. The more information you give, the more value Google will give to your listing and the higher you will rank thus making it easier to for potential clients to reach you through Google Places. To really get Google to place high value on your listing, make sure you include pictures and videos.

* Once you have entered all the relevant information, you need to choose an appropriate way for Google to verify these details. They can do this through a post card or a telephone call and this step is very important, so don’t forget it.

* Once Google has verified your details, they will list you among the local business listings in your location in Google Places and you can start benefiting from Google searcher’s attention.

Two additional things to keep in mind are that is important to list your business in the correct categories and as far as higher ranking goes, it is important to note that Google Places ranks businesses depending on their location from the perceived center of the city. When one visits Google maps and searches for a particular city, the part that the standard Google maps pointer points to first is where Google has marked out as the city center. Businesses closest to this point are ranked at the top and the farther away a business is located from this point, the lower it will be ranked.

The Secret to Getting Google Traffic – Keys to Expose Your Website Or Blog

While many people are spending countless hours on Google AdWords, a few savvy website owners have come across some other less expensive methods to achieve a massive amount of traffic from Google. Getting Google traffic is not rocket science, you just have to know the methods and be willing to apply them.

Below I am going to discuss three methods I use to get more traffic from Google. Some you may know of, some you may not have thought about.

1. You notice that in many of my articles I actually discuss article marketing as a terrific means of traffic generation along with search engine optimization. These two methods have stood the test of time for me personally, and I continue to believe they are the two best methods for traffic generation. What makes article marketing great is that it immediately gives you credibility with your audience, which cannot be said for SEO or PPC. However SEO is great also because of the great potential you have of getting Google traffic almost entirely free.

2. Post ads on eBay, Craigslist, and backpage to generate free website traffic. This is a method that people don’t use much, because the majority of people with an online business or involved in internet or affiliate marketing do not realize that classified ads are often given high priority in search engines. So take advantage of this overlooked area.

3. Have you ever thought of using Google images to attract website traffic? This is one that not many people use, because they do not realize the potential. Millions of image searches are performed daily on Google, so it stands to reason that Google images is a great way of getting Google traffic.

Google SEO Keywords Research

We all know that when it comes to search, Google is the top dog. With nearly 70% of all SEO keywords being searched on Google around the world, it only makes sense to create your web pages with Google in mind.

Yet, the most important part of creating any web page is not the copy. It’s not the design, either. In fact, it starts before you even approach page creation, and that one crucial factor is SEO keywords research, and it can mean the difference between success or failure.

Start off with a good free tool online, and Google’s SEO keywords research tool is great because it tells you exactly what your audience is searching for. You can check it out in your AdWords account or you can use the search-based tool. Both give accurate results.

Type any SEO keywords into the tool you’re using and it will spit back many different words and phrases to consider. Click on the “Global Monthly Searches” column and order the keywords so that you can see which ones have the highest search volume at the top.

Believe it or not, those are not the SEO keywords that you should be interested in selecting for your project. Too many people are looking for them, which means they’re probably lucrative words, meaning people are making money by using them in advertising. They’re hiring teams of search engine optimization specialists to keep them in the top spots on Google and you, as a small business owner, probably have little or no chance to compete for the top spots on the search engine results page.

What you want to do is to go down the list of SEO keywords, and find some that are less searched, but that still get enough traffic to make them worth using in your copy on your page, in your articles, your blog posts, etc. You should be using the keywords you choose in everything you do. Find words that have between 3,000 and 10,000 searches per month and you should have some great keywords that you can rank for.

But check on the competition. Put all of the SEO keywords into the search bar for Google search, and see what status the top search results site have. How old are they? How many links are pointing back to them? Does the site have a high page rank, which is Google’s way of ranking pages. This isnt really as important as it once was, but it’s still something to consider.
